Der Kupfervitriol setzt sich mit dem Kochsalz zu Kupferchlorid und Natriumsulfat um; das Kupferchlorid wirkt auf das vorhaudene metallische Silber ein unter Bildung von Silberchlorid und Kupferchlorur, und das letztere zerlegt sich mit dem Silbersulfid und verwandelt daei-elbe ebenfalls in Silberchlorid: 2CuCl2 + 2Ag = CujClj + 2AgCl Cu2Clj-fAgaS = CuaS + 2AgCl. Das Quecksilber verbindet sich sodann mit dem Chlor; du Silber wird frei und lost sich in dem uberschussigen Queck silber auf. Man schlammt die Masse dann mit Wasser, saturadas Silberamalgiim auf und zerlegt durch Destillation. Bi-i diesem Processe entstanden fruher haufig grosse Verluste dadurch, dass das Quecksilber sich zum Theil mit Sauerstoff- dem Schwefel der Erze verband, wodurch es eine pulverige i mehlige" Beschaffenheit annahm und dann nicht mehr einwirkte; man vermeidet dies jetzt durch Zusatz voa 1 bi- 2Proc. Natrium, welches sich viel leichter mit Sauerstoff oder Schwefel verbindet ala Quecksilber und dadurch verhindert, dass das letztere mehlig wird. Die amerikanische Amalgamation wurde fruher in modificirter Form auch in Deutschland angewandt, und in Colorado wendet man fur arme Erze das obige, fur reiche aber das ver. besserte deutsche an, welches darin besteht, dass man die Erze mit Kochsalz rostet, wodurch Silberchlorid entsteht; die gerostete Masse wird dann zusammen mit Wasser und Eisenabfallen in Fasser gebracht, die man um eine Axe rotiren lisst. Das Eisen wirkt auf das Silberchlorid zersetzend ein, es entstehen Eisenchlorid und metallisches Silber, das man durch Quecksilber auszieht. Die in Europa...
