The Knights of the Round Table go West is how this book has always been depicted in reviews over the years, but I am here to tell you: That is a gross misconception of this book. Actually, this is the story of a young woman, Holly Ripple, who loses her father and inherits a large cattle empire overrun with rustlers and desperados. And yes, a group of young devil-may-care cowboys, led by Renn Frayne, come to the rescue. The story is really all about her; her strength, her determination to build a ranch the likes of which had never been seen. Also, introduced in this book is Brazos Keene who shoots his way through this novel and stars in "Twin Sombreros". Knights of the Range is classic Zane Grey--not a spectacular book like the early novels, but a pleasurable, good read.

knights of the range
Typical Zane Grey, I and many others enjoy his kind of books. If you like Zane Grey you should like it.

Loved it
I've read just about every Zane Grey novel. This is one that I've read a couple of times. I wish it had been longer. But then again many of Zane Grey's novels were hacked to pieces by the publishers. There was one called the 'Wilderness Trek' that had close to three hundred pages hacked off by the publishers, it has since been re-released in it's entirety 'The Great Trek' also a magnificent and epic tale.
I suspect the same happened with Knights of the Range.
However even it's present version it is still a very memorable story, one of my favorites. You'll never forget 'Brazos Keene.' I know I won't, I just named a stud colt after him.
