Albert Ammons is featured on six piano solos from two sessions in 1939, leading a quartet in 1946 and jamming with his sextet during 1947-48 on this LP sampler. His boogie-woogie music is consistently exciting in all the formats even if one regrets that these performances have been reissued in a somewhat hodge-podge fashion; the selections are drawn from the catalogs of Blue Note, Solo Art and Mercury.
