The foun dation of this story is my chapter on Justus Falckner in the German Pietists. Much new and additional material of greatest importance, however, is presented in the present publication - material gathered at home and abroad at a great cost of time and labor. The finding of the letters from the Swedish pastors and the diploma of ordination signed at the Old Swedish Church, November 24, 1703, now published for the first time, however, amply repaid the writer for his outlay.
