excellent description...
Halsell gives an excellent description of anti-Arab Israeli sentiment after the Six-Day War. Arabs, confined to refugee camps or towns in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, are discriminated against and consistently face their occupiers with resilience and hope. Halsell sets out to tell the stories of all three religions in the Holy Land, but comes to a realization that the defeated Arabs live in a constant state of deprivation and fear. Israelis treat their Arab neighbors with disdain and sometimes disgust. It is a heartbreaking tale, full of sad histories as three religions attempt to come together and live in some state of harmony. There is no doubt, though, that the hardest trials and tribulations are reserved for the Arab residents of Palestine and Israel. I would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in the ongoing Arab-Israeli conflict.
