English summary: The bankruptcy of 1720 was one of the most remarkable moments of French history, when thousands of people were financially ruined after the failed introduction of paper money in France. The present volume examines the rapid rise and career of John Law, the Scottish banker who created the idea when he served at the head of the French governments finances.
