Of all of Eschenburg's many activities, it is mostly his translation of Shakespeare that is known to a wider public. This interdisciplinary study aims to correct this rather one-sided view. Twenty-four essays illuminate all areas of research on which Eschenburg has left his mark, while also reconstructing the impressive intellectual networks from around 1800 that tend to elude conventional classification into epochs.
