If you don't know much about Joan Crawford and you would like to "get to know her", then this is the book you should read. In my opinion is a great introduction to Joan, besides watching her movies of course.
Bob Thomas did an excellent job. It should be also pointed out that he interviewed Joan Crawford many times over a thirty-year period and conducted more than two hundred interview with her coworkers and acquaintances.

Portrait of Joan
This biography of the life and career of Joan Crawford was a very good read. I thought that the author presented the woman fairly, not slanted one way or the other. It detailed the early years as a struggling dancer and her rise the motion pictures to her work in the business world with Pepsi. There are lots of pictures from her movies and of her husbands and children and a detailed filmography.
