Broaden & Deepen Understanding
This book was written nearly ninty years ago by a Hebrew scholar in the Hebrew language for people of the Jewish faith. Its perspective is nearly 180 degrees from that of a cradle catholic, as I was and still might be had I not ventured elsewhere during some 50 years of theologic wandering. Denby's translation presents Klausner's work in a clear and readable manner, and succeeds in bringing both the Author's persona and his thoughts to readers of English. One learns much about the world into which the man (and he is treated only as such here) Jesus of Nazareth was born, and in which he lived, preached, and met his end. The book places the activity of Jesus' life into a context that is entirely different from any I had previously imagined. Anyone interested in expanding knowledge and understanding cannot help but do so in this fascinating eye opener. I read a copy borrowed from my Unitarian Universal Church library, kept it longer than I should have, and only returned it when I had obtained a copy of my own, to read again, to add to my own collection of theologic material, and thus to share with my co-explorers now and afterwards. Some phrases and sentences are beyond the interest of any but scholars, but there is no section or chapter of this book that does not inform in a clear, understandable manner. One comes away with more than just new knowledge: one gains understanding and for some, further confirmation.
