Great workout
I loved this DVD more than I thought I would. The ballet is classical, however the music is contemporary, which I think is lovely. There are three parts: beginning (13 min) intermediate (16 min) and advanced (16 min). If you do the entire workout, it's a 45-minute dance class. But if you don't have time, an individual workout is short enough to do in the morning before you leave for work. The majority of the workout is traditional barre stuff -- plies, releves, rond de jambes, frappes, tendus, etc. If you don't know any of the above terms, that's OK, because for the most part, Jennifer Kries goes slow enough to catch on. And everything is repetitive. If you've never taken ballet, the barre stuff (which is the majority of each section) is simple and you'll catch on.
I do need to warn about the end of each section. There are movements that go so fast that I wonder how people who've never taken ballet can figure them out, since Jennifer Kries doesn't do a great job explaining them. As I wrote above, the majority of the workout is barre work, although you don't need the wooden bar and mirror that you see in dance studios to do the DVD. You can either hold on to the back of a chair for support, or do it without any support, in the middle of your living room floor, which really strengthens the core.
