C. Hall. "the year i860 begins, thank God, prosperously. We are settled in a new house.1 Notwithstanding my legal losses and expenses I still have money, and am absolutely better off than before. Literature seems to promise more, my last book having been successful." Then the Old Man of the Sea, the lawsuit, is spoken of, and he continues: --"In Ireland we still hope to conquer, and possibly the worst is over here. During the past year we have had many opportunities of leading a quieter life, and had manifold and visible blessings, for which God be praised. Amen." A Nineteenth Century essayist and novelist, he also frequently contrubuted articles to The Spectator, The Leader and Chamber's Journal. Here, he focusses on everything from satirists to Bible translators, as well as poets and historians. In decorative cloth binding with gilt detailing. Externally sound, there is some wear to the extremities, hinges and backstrip as well as markings to the boards. There is also sunning to the spine. The hinge is also somewhat tender. Internally, the binding is tender but holding and the pages are bright and clean throughout. Good.
