"It's Superman!" is a fun and fast-paced tale of exciting misadventures, ill-fitting costumes and heroic escapades. Travelling to Hollywood, Clark becomes a stuntman and, given a costume befitting his abilities, discovers he can fly - and Superman makes an unexpected debut in a daring rescue. Coming to New York, Willi and Clark meet with Lois, who doesn't believe Willi's tale of a 'Superman'. I'm giving this only 3 stars rather than 4 because I'm not a big fan of comic books, er graphic novels but I have always enjoyed the classic stories of the Big Two: Superman and Batman. If you are suspecting to see Superman as the main character in this novel you will be disappointed. He is only a peripheral character but there are new additional characters that will engage the reader. What I really liked about this novel was the fact that it delved into an area of Superman's life that we know little about and that it did not tell the same old story-it changed the characterizations of all the people in the stories we've read about through the years. Superman purists beware, this is not the book for you but if you are like me and don't like to see the same thing redone over and over again you might want to give this book a try.

Not just another superhero book...
A wonderful retelling of the Superman mythos, "It's Superman!" is part slice of small-town life, part coming-of-age story, and part "Untouchables". De Haven captures the era and the hero perfectly. Lex Luthor is a gangster with visions of the future, Lois Lane deals with complex womens issues, and Clark is truly a boy trying to cope with the living weapon that is him own body. This is a wonderful read for anyone who likes tales of adventure accompanied with strong character development!
