Her departure leaves many members of the group suspicious. One night in Caserta, Gordy spies Rachael outside a restaurant. She claims she left the group because she was afraid for her life. She will say no more, but asks Gordy to keep their conversation secret, 'for fear of his own life.' Gordy is immediately suspicious of Harry, but when Harry's mate Walter joins the group in place of Rachael, Gordy's fears are exacerbated. Walter appears to be just as shifty and shady as Harry. Gordy does a little detective work of his own and makes some frightening and alarming discoveries about other members of the group, including the group leader, Con.
