Very Good in Good+ jacket. "Islandia is like no novel ever before written or published. With an intriduction about the author by Leonard Bacon. First edition in original, clipped, jacket in a clear protective sheet. General wear to jacket, especially extremities, with some tears at folds, chipping and rubbing. Tan cloth over boards with black lables on front and back and gilded and black lettering. Light scuffing to covers. Endpapers are a map of 'Islandia' and its continent. Printed on thin paper, long edge slightly deckled, and top edge stained green by publisher (lightened slightly). Inteior is very lighty toned, otherwise clean and clear. Pages: (10) 1014 Dimensions: 8¾ x 6 x 2.
This book is *such* a classic. I enjoyed it very much. It's a utopian fantasy about an unknown island in the south seas, whose people have very different social values, working to keep their mostly agrarian ways in the face of an alien religion (Catholicism) and alien cultures (U.S. and Germany).
There are other well done stories in the same culture by Mark Saxton, who edited Islandia itself.
