Good. First edition, 1839, in early horizontally grained deep red roan, with recent red leather spine, rather amateur in appearance, with gilt title on spine and presumably owner's name on front border. 79 pp., contents good, some heavy occasional foxing. LIkely the work of Rev. John Newland Maffitt, who emigrated from Ireland in the early 20th century with his wife, Ann Carnicke, settling with their son in Connecticut. Their son would become a noted Confederate blockade runner in the Civil War, having been adopted by his uncle, who lived in Fayetteville.
