Who was on this earth first? Sanderson (1911-1973) believed that other advanced civilizations live either in the ocean depths or inside the earth and that they might be as many as 300 million years older than man. He posits the question as to how far we could progress if we had a 300 million-year headstart. He notes that over 50% of all UAOs (Unidentified Aerial Objects and Unidentified Aquatic Objects), that have been seen were observed when they were either leaving or entering bodies of water. Since mankind occupies only 2% of the earth's surface, that leaves the majority of the surface for other intelligences to leave or enter without being observed. He feels that they are so advanced that they have become "incredibly and abysmally stupid" (p. 216) because they have become so dependent on computers that they stopped thinking, just like we are becoming.
Like Stephen Hawking remarked recently, Sanderson believed that that it would be better if we didn't meet with these OINTs (other intelligences). There is no reason to believe that they would be kind to us.
I see no contradiction between science and religion as long as we are open-minded enough. I believe that religion is much broader than science. God has given us information on a need to know basis. He has power over the OINTs and has allowed them to progress as long as they don't infringe on mankind's progress. If mankind threatens to destroy itself or this planet, God could use the OINTs to prevent us from doing so, but I think He has other ways to prevent this.
Sanderson was a career British Naval Intelligence officer who had access to much information about this subject.
This book is so deep and thoughtful that I plan on reading it again and writing an outline on it.
