First things first, the book defines what a startup is and what it's not with innovation at the heart of everything a startup is and the genesis of its definition. Startups are innovative commercial ventures built for rapid and even explosive growth. This means they are continuously in need of capital which makes their funding profile different to that of small and medium-sized business enterprises (SMEs) even though they typically start as one. That's where the POEM Framework comes in. It enables you as a startup founder to see what is needed from when you start building your Minimum Viable Product (MVP) to many years down the line at Series A while working to meet your startups immediate-term needs as you go along managing the risk of delivery of your promise to your customers in the market.
