Endodontic treatment is essentially a debridement procedure to disrupt and remove the microbial ecosystem that is associated with the disease process. Main cause of the endodontic failure are microorganisms either in the root canal space after treatment or recolonizing in the filled canal system. To eliminate such microorganism the primary goal of the endodontic treatment is to optimize root canal disinfection and to prevent re infection by cleaning the root canal system thoroughly and making it free of microbiota and debris. Intracanal medications destroys the residual microorganisms, toxins and residual bacteria that are failed from removal by chemomechanical preparation. Intracanal medicaments prevent or control post operative pain. Hence adequate cleaning and shaping of the root canal system is of paramount importance for a successful endodontic treatment.
