She founded with Alice Milligan two nationalist publications The Northern Patriot, and then The Shan Van Vocht in 1896, which appeared monthly until 1899. Anna MacManus was a journalist, novelist and poet who sometimes wrote under the pseudonym, "Ethna Carbery." She married author Seumas MacManus in 1901; with Alice Milligan, she published two Irish nationalist magazines. Text also prints a poem, "To You in Heaven, " by Seumus MacManus.
