I discovered independent films early in undergraduate studies. One in particular stayed in my memory. More than twenty years later, the memory of that film still haunted me. I returned to graduate studies and had a chance to train in video and later still in cinema. It was that film, "In a Rehearsal Room", which convinced me to create beauty, drama and truth in moving pictures. The film itself is hard to find. It's in two libraries and one video archive in the US. The book is a lot easier to come by, and you can enjoy it at home! The photos are as good as the actual cinema images. Additionally, the book has "behind-the-scenes" information which is not in the film. This book would be of interest to dancers and costumers as well as video- and filmmakers. The author included inside information about the difficulties in choreography and choices of costume in this period piece.
