In the 1880s they published a reprint of a set of classic fiction with uniform bindings by such authors as Scott, Verne, Dickens, etc. This is one of that set. Red decorative cloth with debossed leaf with plant and insects within, design with out and around border. Gilt title panel on spine with embossed red titles. Rubbed along all edges, Bottom front corner scuffed through cloth. Sewn binding is tight and solid, inner hinge is cracked. Text block edges browned. Foxing throughout; no writing, no underlining or marking of text, leaves browned. Hesba Stretton is the pen name for Sara Smith (1832-1911), an English writer who was one of the most popular evangelical writers of he day. Her most famous novel was Jessica's First Prayer. 225 pages. 5 x 7.5 inches. Butler Brothers, New York and Chicago, 1887.
