Great Work by an Important Architect
I have only read parts of this book, as I bought it as a gift for my father- a retired architect. From what I did read- and especially from viewing the included photographs, and illustrations- this was an interesting work dedicated to the oriental arts-- mostly concerning Japanese architecture.
Ralph Adams Cram was an important architectural figure famous for his gothic inspired architecture. He built many ecclesiastical buildings, as well as many other important buildings throughout the United States. I'm not extremely familiar with him, so cannot comment too extensively.
This book is an involved treatise by Cram on the value and importance of Japanese architecture, and its connection to the recognized cultural influences of the West. The copy I looked at was an original hardbound from the early 1900's. It was full of magnificent pictures of early pagodas, and other buildings, and structures.
I'd recommend this book to someone interested in historical architecture, especially of Japan, as well as anyone interested in a significant architect such as Ralph Adams Cram. The included photos, and illustrations definitely influenced my high rating.
