Seller's Description:
Fine. Facsimile reprint of a work first published in London in 1832. Forty-two color plates without descriptive text. Folio (14x21) bound in red half leather over maroon boards. Number 145 of an edition limited to 530 copies. Includes an illustrated essay by Brian Reade, 15 pp. Edward Lear (1812-1888) was a brilliant artist, but only his early creative years were devoted to painting birds. His monograph of the parrots reflects his artistic talent and remains one of the most prized illustrated works of the 19th century.
