Seller's Description:
Small 4to. Green cloth, pictorial price-clipped dust jacket. xvii, 227pp. Fine/very good. Minor jacket edgewear. An exceptionally tight and handsome first edition of this superb regional anthology, featuring contributions from the Prairie State's earliest versifiers (John Howard Bryant, John Hay, William Leggett, etc. ) on up through more recent literary lights (Gwendolyn Brooks, Lucien Stryk, Lisel Mueller, John Frederick Nims, etc.). This copy bears unique autograph addition: Tipped facing the title page is a Typed Document Signed from Elder Olson, a half dozen of whose poems grace these pages: 1p, 8¼" X 4¼", n.p., n.y. [pencilled date on verso of 15 December 1983]. Fine. Typescript of Olson's short poem "Wild Horse, " signed large and bold by him in black fineline at the close. Whether this typescript was made by Olson or prepared by an admirer is not known, but a fine addition in any case from this prolific and well-known Illinois poet, literary critic and educator (1909-92).
