Signed flat by Lessing on title page as both Lessing and Somers. Shelved in Room C. Doris Lessing published two works (this work and THE DIARY OF A GOOD NEIGHBOUR, 1983) under the pseudonym Jane Somers in order to highlight the publishing industry's bias in favor of authors who had already achieved significant financial success.
