I first encountered this book on a trip from the East coast back to my 'home' in the Dakotas. I stood in a bookstore fighting back the tears because this book is so beautiful and so correct. There is a special bond between people who have experienced the prairie and this book captures the beauty of the bond and of the land. I take this out whenever I am feeling homesick for my flat land and feel connected once again. The illustrations are perfect as well. Its a simple book but it carries a lot of meaning.
