I wish I'd had this book when I was struggling to find my way through CFS! It is an excellent resource for anyone recovering from TBI, CFS, FM, MS, Lyme Disease, or any other "mysterious" chronic illness or debilitating injury. It is also an excellent resource for care givers and health providers. Using the Wizard of Oz story as an extended metaphor for finding and following the road home to recovery, author Laura Bruno presents a "traveler's guide" with 52 suggestions for the journey. With compassion and humor, Laura tells her story and invites the reader to follow his or her own "Yellow Brick Road" home. She points out some of the bends along the way, turns that may seem scary but are actually opportunities to change perspectives that no longer work and may be hindering recovery. The book is especially user-friendly for people experiencing brain fog that impairs their ability to read. Laura's writing style is straightforward and concise. Key points are in bold type. Suggestions are in "bullet" format. The chapters are short and easy to digest. Also included are inspirational stories from survivors and special sections for care givers and treatment providers. I highly recommend this book to people looking for the road to recovery, and to their care givers and health providers!

A must read
I have been a health care professional for 15 years. I am a licensed massage therapist and have worked with folks who have chronic pain and injury during those years. I have seen many who have been injured in auto accidents and have experienced the trauma and frustration most go through even with significantly less trauma and injury than what Laura Bruno experienced. In her book, Laura shares outstanding resources and pieces of information that can be essential to recovery and rare to find in one place. Laura also shares a compassionate and tremendously caring perspective that will help those who have been afflicted by a traumatic injury realize that they are not alone and that there is help and hope. Laura gives hope, support and encouragement not only to the injured but to family, friends and caregivers as well. If I Only Had A Brain Injury is beautifully written and such a pleasure and inspiration to read. It gives support and encouragement to all who are seeking to heal, not only from injury, but also from life's obstacles that have stripped us of our true, authentic ability to live a fulfilled, miraculous and bountiful life.
