My chess teacher recommended this as the best book for learning openings concepts. Indeed it is. You will need a basic openings book to follow along if you want to see a diagram of the opening itself. Mr. Fine writes readably and insightfully about the larger picture, and authoritatively on why some lines have been abandoned.
