She balances delicate sounds such as harps and pianos with bit-crushed rhythms, and the effect is a bit disorienting but still oddly soothing. She clearly has pop and R&B instincts, but seems intent on twisting them as much as possible. Early in the album, she alludes to hits by the Temptations and Teena Marie, almost as if she's humming them to herself while she's daydreaming. Squeaky, munchkin-like voices pop up during a few tracks, and Simonetti's synths approximate eerie bird chirps during "Gutshot." Generally detached and spaced-out, the songs are nevertheless playful abstractions of futuristic pop.
