A significant proportion of outpatient consultations of paediatricians and paediatric surgeons is associated with recurrent abdominal pain. There is at present some evidence that suggests that the pain may be caused by spasmodic contraction of some region of the intestine. The children more often are characteristically rather anxious, dependent and timid. The diagnosis and treatment of this enigmatic disease are addressed by paediatricians and surgeons. This book unites scientists and clinicians in a lively interdisciplinary exchange of ideas.
