A timeless, "triumphant" ( Entertainment Weekly ) story of healing and recovery from the victim of a crime that shocked the nation: the Central Park Jogger. As featured in When They See Us --the Netflix limited series created, written, and directed by Ava DuVernay that retells the story of the Central Park Five, the young men wrongly accused of this crime. Shortly after 9:00 p.m. on April 19, 1989, a young woman jogs alone near 102nd Street in New York City's Central Park. She is attacked, raped, savagely beaten, and left for dead. This is a book I could only read once. The story of the central park jogger was in the papers for along time and people still discuss it. Trisha Meili tells her story of surival and the heart breaking aftermath.
She was attacked by a group of young boys who bashed her head in with a rock. The book goes into detail concerning the trail. The book explainse how the defense argued that a fifteen year old does not know bashing someone with a brick can kill them. It is moments like this that anger the reader.
The book is also about stength and her fight for justice. This woman is a true inspiration. Telling of her pain and determination to get her life back. She puts a face and genuine emotion behind the news paper articles. This is one of the best books I've read in years.
