Great book from a White Hunter
I first read this book some 55 years ago as a freshman in high school and was enthralled with the stories John Hunter shared with all who read of his exploits and adventures in the wild jungles and plains of Africa. His was a sincere story which told of the rich and the famous, the good and the bad he came in contact with as he led them to then plentiful game that included some close calls with rhinoceroses and lions. The chapters are actually individual essays where Hunter tells us of his rise as a White Hunter in quite understandable and direct language. After all these years of not reading the book, I was prepared to be let down, but happily I was able to renew my acquaintance with this knowledgeable and forthright man. A wonderfully well written read of a long gone Africa of the 1920's and 1930's!

The Best African Hunting Book
If you read only one book on African Hunting, this is the one, HUNTER by John Hunter (1887-1963), perhaps the greatest white hunter who witnessed a savage continent transformed into modern Africa. Hunter watched and shot elephants with ivory weighing 100 lbs or more on either side, he took maharajas and noble men across Africa to collect record size trophies. This book is illustrated with photographs and it is a fabulous read. Other books by Hunter includes: Hunter's Tracks, African Bush Adventures and White Hunter.
