Large format hardcover with dustjacket, first printing as indicated by the publisher's "1" in the number line on copyright page, an interesting association copy, it is inscribed and signed by the author and photographer: "To George Reynard, with warmest best wishes-Robert A. Tyrrell-Esther Quesada Tyrrell-12/7/80." George Reynard contributed to this book by providing spectograms of the vocalizations of the male bee hummingbird and he has also signed and dated (2003) the book on the half-title page, Reynard has also added a few notes in ink: he has placed check-marks next to a few of the names, including his own, in the bibliography, he has underlined his own name on the copyright page, and he has underlined several names, again, including his own, on the Acknowledgements pages. The book has moderate tanning to the top and bottom edges and a mild bump to the bottom front corner, it is clean, tight and square and the contents are fine, the jacket has rubbing to the glossy surface as its only flaw, the original price is present and a professional (removable) mylar cover is included, a unique copy for the collector; Signed by Author & Illustrator.
