I thought I was reviewing this book when I submitted a review for The Word, The Text, and the Critic. Sorry for the confusion! This small book is a treasure: clear, challenging, and redemptive, if I might use that word, a tribute to the art of reading and the place of reading in the world in all its geographical, historical, and personal depth. Students of the humanities and all who are engaged with humanity will gain new perspective and much pleasure from this last completed book of Edward W. Said. He rescues humanism from its spurious defenders. A perfect legacy to the world!
