If you think of your dog(s) as just short people with a couple of extra legs, then this is a MUST read book. Researchers who say that dogs don't recognize objects on TV have never been at our house when a dog pops up on-screen. Great insight into their habits, behaviors and what you can learn by just watching your favorite 4 legged person. Book is well written, easy to read and it doesn't hurt anything to jump back and forth between chapters of interest.

excellent for anyone interested in language
I enjoyed reading this book so much that I even re-read it, right away. As a speech-language pathologist I was fascinated by the research on language use by other species (humans, apes, cats)as well as dogs.I feel much more connected to my own dog now.
