Food replicator mistakes...rubber starships...a planet LOADED with dilithium...a classical quoting Klingon...and a starship with a REAL identity crisis are just a few of the things greeting the reader in "How Much for Just the Planet". John M Ford weaves a tapestry of characters and situations that surrounds the reader with laughter and confusion as Captain Kirk, Commander Spock, Dr. McCoy, and the crew of the Enterprise attempt to negotiate with the inhabitants of a dilithium-rich planet. They also have to contend with a group of Klingons also wanting to negotiate for the planet. Between a Klingon playing golf, Checkov's blow-up at Mr. Scott, Uhura's involvement in murder and a tiny harp, Dr. McCoy's grits, a sloppy Vulcan, A Withiki that eats omlets, and Kirk's interest in someone named Charlie, this book is a page-turner right up to the very end. Tight and well written, it is a book you will wish had been made into an episode.
