Well worth reading if you can find a copy
This novel combines events that were current at the time it was written with futuristic elements that are starting to become current.
Written at the height of the cold war, we see a review of some of the feelings and events that made that era memorable, and the sort of preview of the future that makes sci-fi brain teasing fun. Without adding a spoiler I must say that one of the main characters is a dog that has a technological advantage over other canines, or any of the humans.
Interestingly a news item I recently read mentions research being done at this very moment to by Auburn University to give a dog some of the same advantages the dog in the novel has. And guess what! Their dog has the same name as the dog in the novel!
I wonder if any of the researchers got the Idea from the novel. Did Jules Verne's novel spark an idea for atomic powered submarines?
