When Buck Owens' career stalled in the mid-'70s, he began concentrating on his many business ventures and investments. He seemed to be waiting for the Bakersfield sound that he helped develop to come back into style. It did in 1988 in the guise of Dwight Yoakam, who recorded "Streets of Bakersfield" as a duet with Owens, briefly re-establishing him with a number one single.
