He was Curator of the Cambridge University Botanic Gardens, Cambridge, from 1790 until his death. His most important work was Hortus Cantabrigensis, first published in 1796 but with several later, much expanded, editions. Sixth Edition. In a half calf binding with marbled boards. Externally, smart with slight rubbing, general shelfwear and some marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound, bright and clean with a copperplate ink inscription to the front pastedown. Very Good.
