For not only were the Genoese superior in numerical force, but the wind which was behind them, blew so strongly in the faces of the Islanders, that the latter had been compelled to furl their sails, and to confine themselves to the use of their oars.1 At the same time Barborino was no match for his antagonist. Tiepolo having remained at Trapani eight days to give his troops rest and to refit, returned to receive the congratulations of Zeno and the Republic.
