It was the seedbed for West Virginia University, the largest university in West Virginia. The college adapted during the twentieth century: admitting women, at first in domestic sciences and now into all programs; adding diverse disciplines - biochemistry, forestry, landscape architecture, recreation, textiles, wildlife, etc; and earning international recognition as an institution of higher learning.
