Sir Hudson Lowe, and Official Documents Not Before Made Public ON the 7th of January, 1819, Captain Nicholls represented to Major Gorrequer that Bonaparte had of late thought proper to adopt a system of concealment which made it impossible for him to do his duty at Longwood, and that references to any of his followers tended only to embarrass, Iather than facilitate, his duties. He said that the day before he had had an interview with Count Montholon, who told him that, for several days past, Napoleon had been so ill that he was not able to sit Up to receive visitors; but in opposition to this Captain Nicholls asserted that he knew that General Bona parte was seen late the evening before in one of his gardens, dressed, with his cocked-hat on.
