Internally, there is light tanning on the end pages, but there are no other markings or inscriptions, and the pages within both books are neat and complete. The bindings are secure. In very good condition indeed considering their age! JK.

Volume III looks at the years 1795 to 1834, and was published in 1891. Volume IV looks at the years 1834 to 1854, and was published in 1893. Volume III with four colour folding maps, two monochrome folding maps, and one plate. Volume IV with a colour folding map, three folding maps, one colour plate, and one plate. Written by George McCall Theal. Theal was a prolific historian of South African history. Collated, complete. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Some minor bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities. A couple of light marks to the boards. Front hinge of Volume IV is starting but firm. Institutional stamp to the front pastedowns. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright with scattered spotting. Institutional stamp to the head of the title pages. Very Good.
