History of Rome
This dense history of Rome is not the traditional narrative history of the Republic, Principate and early Byzantine Empire. Instead Dr. Ridley has gone straight to the sources, literary and non-literary, to produce a no frills "documentary style" history where each statement is clearly documented as to which source it came from. Stylistically this work is written almost in a bullet point style, which is invaluable to High School or University professors when writing lecture notes. There are several helpful genealogical tables throughout the work, unfortunately there are not any maps to be found. North American readers should be aware that as this is an Italian publication (in English) the table of contents is at the end of the book, after the index. An excellent resource for teachers and students this work is currently (2014) out of print and hard to find. Per the publishers website this is work should be available as a digital PDF in the near future.
