The great importance Of these changes in the condition of the country, and of the alterations of our laws, in so far as these may be considered to be connected, would seem to call for a historical record of them, accompanied by such explanations derived from an extensive and' connected View of facts, as might be calculated to throw light upon the phaenomena by which the period from the close of 1839 to that of 1847 has been signalised.
