Good. Condition: Good; 2 vol. set, sm4to. Half-bound in black calf and black buckram with gilt fillet accents and gilt stamped titling on spine. Book is very sturdy and interior is clean, with only light toning. Leather is cracking and worn on both spines with the gilt titling starting to fade. Corners are also worn and cracked. Specks of black ink are on the tail edge of text block on both volumes. The top edge of the text block is gilt. Leather.

Third volume published in 1868. 615 pp. & 543 pp. Contemporary ½ calf backed marbled boards, black leather labels; edge worn and rubbed, Vol. 2 rear cover marbled paper largely missing, showing cardboard backing. Vol. 2 front hinge slightly cracked, old newspaper ghosting on pp. 270-1 and 364-5. Later bookplates on front pastedowns. Vol. 1 engraved frontis portrait; Vol. 2 litho frontis portrait. The Dukes of Burgundy were rivals for the French crown. Charles the Bold was the last Duke, after his death in battle, 1477, Bungundy lost its independence from Paris.
