A Moving Story by Cheryl St. John
This is another well-written book by Cheryl St. John. As the second book in a three-part series, this continues the story about the folks of Copper Creek, Colorado. Annie and Luke (from SWEET ANNIE) reappear during this story.
Katherine Cutter has been abandoned by her handsome, promiscuous husband; she is expecting his baby in a few months. Because her husband did not provide for her, Kate has had to return to her previous hard job (laundress) and living with her hostile, angry mother. Kate has always been poor but hoped for a better life for her child. She hasn't heard from her husband in 5 months and has lost almost all hope.
A strange man arrives and tells her that her husband Levi is dead and he is willing to take her to his home to live. His name is Noah Cutter and he is half-brother to her husband. Kate begins to notice that Noah is totally covered with hair, gloves, a coat and a hat (always on and pulled down low on his head). She eventually learns that Noah is deeply scarred emotionally and physically.
Kate is a kind woman who is thankful for the second chance Noah provides. Because she is not horrified by Noah's scars, he gradually learns to let go of some of his trappings that hide him.
This is a gentle story about two people with little hope for the future who find each other. This is written in Cheryl St. John's winning style.
