Seller's Description:
Very Good. 246p. A hardcover book in very good condition with a like dustjacket. Tiny bits of paper stuck to back edge of spine. Pages tanned with age; otherwise clean and tight. The jacket is tanned and lightly worn, but essentially intact. Photoplay edition of Ernie Pyle's World War II corespondence, illustrated with black and white stills from the 1945 United Artists film THE STORY OF G.I. JOE starring Burgess Meredith. Also contains drawings by Carol Johnson.
Ernie Pyle was one the greatest war correspondents during World War II, particularly from the perspective of the enlisted soldier. This book and his other "Brave Men" are outstanding. Ernie followed the troops for virtually the entire war until he was killed by a sniper near the end of the conflict. This nation lost a treasure that day.
