Seller's Description:
First edition of collection of this collection of Levitt's street photography. Oblong octavo, original cloth, illustrated. Association copy, inscribed by the author to fellow photographer Jeff Wall on the title page, "For Jeff Wall. Helen Levitt." The recipient, Jeff Wall, has been a key figure in Vancouver's art scene since the 1970's. He is best known for his large-scale back-lit Cibachrome photographs that explore Vancouver's mixture of natural beauty, urban decay, and postmodern and industrial featurelessness. Fine in a fine dust jacket. Foreword by Adam Gopnik. An exceptional association. Many of Helen Levitt's classic pictures of New York City are wold-famous, but there are many more unknown Levitts, the bulk of which are the subject of this book. Here and there brings together 105 rarely-seen pictures chosen by the photographer herself, more than 90 of which have never been published before. "Helen Levitt's work is a cornerstone in the history of photography" (International Center of Photography's Master of Photography Award, 1997).
