Her Daughter's Dream is the continuation of a four-generation story that began in Her Mother's Hope. Although the books can stand alone, it is much more fascinating to read them both in order.
The books together show how too often, personality traits and ways of relating to our mothers and our daughters are shaped by events in the lives of those who came before us and raised us. When we know what caused them to behave the way they did, it deepens our understanding and compassion - and breaks down barriers that stand in the way of healthy relationships, healthy communication. We are able to express the love we so deeply feel that often is held back by difficulties.
The story of Swiss girl Marta and the challenges in her life is begun in the first book along with the story of her daughter, Hildemara. The family eventually settled in California.
Her Daughter's Dream continues the tale with Hildemara's daughter, Carolyn and Carolyn's daughter, May Flower Dawn during the years after World War II, during the Vietnam War and afterward.
The story of these women and their families is told in detail through these different time periods of history, each being brought to life vividly. I was very drawn into the story and wish there was more!

Her Daughters Dream
This is an excellent book, a wonderful addition to Francine Rivers books.
